Sister Anne Kelly, fmm

md_KelleyIn 1967, the new Pakistan Franciscan Missionary of Mary Juniorate was opened in Lahore and Sr. Anne was requested to assume the challenging responsibility of serving as Junior Mistress. The Juniorate was transferred to Malir in 1969 and Sr Anne continued her work as Junior Mistress until her return to Hyderabad in the fall of 1973.

Her next ministries include; counseling girls in a hostel (name), serving the diocese as Archivist and teaching English in a Muslim Boys’ School where there were neither Christian faculty members nor students. However, once the government nationalized the Pakistani Schools, it was impossible for a non- Pakistani to assume a teaching post in any school. Sister loved her Pakistani students and was gratified by the appreciation they showed at meeting her on a human level as well as on a professional one.

In 1978 Sr. Anne was missioned back to St. Anthony’s Community in Fall River, MA. teaching at Espiritu Santo Elementary School.  She taught there for two years during which time she also studied, earning a Master of Science in Education with a major in Elementary Language Arts.

From 1982 to 1989, Sr. Anne’s ministry was as an Elementary School Teacher   in St. Theresa’s School in Providence.  She also served in the finance office at Holy Family convent.

In 1989 to 1997 she served as the Assistant Provincial treasurer in Myriam Provincialate in the Bronx, NY.

In 1998, she was sent in mission to Our Lady of Wisdom Community in St. Louis, MO. where she taught English as a Second Language to Immigrant and refugee women, and also served as the local coordinator for her community.

In 2005 Sr. Anne was missioned to Emmanuel Community where once again, she taught English as a Second Language in Pine Mountain, GA.

Her present ministry is collaborating with persons of many faiths who minister with FOCUS  (Fellowship of Christians United in Service) in an outreach to the needy of Harris County, GA.
